DALE CITY, VA (September 4, 2006) Dale City Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department (VFD) Medic Unit 513 sits idle at a medical helicopter landing zone, as its medics, along with a medic and flight nurse from INOVA Fairfax Hospitals medical evacuation helicopter, Aircare One, treat the victim of a single vehicle collision. The Aircare crews flight helmets remained outside of the medic unit, while they were inside. The vehicle came to a rest against the traffic signal pole at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and Old Bridge Road, trapping and critically injuring its driver, the sole occupant of the car. The driver was extricated by members of the Dale City and Occoquan, Woodbridge and Lorton (OWL) Volunteer Fire-Rescue Departments (VFD), under the command of a Dale City VFD Battalion Chief, during the late morning of Labor Day. The driver was treated by Dale City VFD and Aircare Medical Helicopter medics and taken to Potomac Hospital. PHOTO BY Joseph P. Cirone
