Joseph P Cirone > MANASSAS, VA – (December 10, 2006) – An upper level fire quickly spread to lower floors and consumed a large home, with a two car garage, displacing two adults and a 13-year old teenager, Sunday evening. At 8:27 PM, the Coles District Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to 7878 Pembridge Road. Minutes later, the first arriving units reported seeing flames burning through the roof of the structure, bringing Fire and Rescue personnel from the Dale City, Lake Jackson and Nokesville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments to the scene. Coles District and Dale City firefighters initially entered the second floor and began an aggressive interior attack against the fire, but were soon forced to evacuate for their own safety as the roof began to collapse inward. Changing strategies, firefighters fought the stubborn blaze from the exterior, using multiple large diameter hose lines, deployed around the home and a deluge of water streaming from the Nokesville Tower Ladder truck, situated directly in front of the home. The intense heat generated by the fire, damaged homes on both sides of the fire building, blistering siding. Firefighters successfully utilized defensive tactics to prevent the radiated heat from also consuming the nearby structures. Firefighting, overhaul and salvage operations continued for nearly four hours, until the last two remaining units began packing up at 12:13 AM. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Prince William County Fire Marshal’s Office. It was a busy day for fire crews in the county, starting with an early morning fire in Dumfries, which destroyed another home and displaced its occupants. Photo by Joseph P. Cirone
